Here’s a rare chance to buy one of the best sports cars of the century. But you’ll need to act quickly.
A pristine 2012 Lexus LFA recently popped up for auction on Bring a Trailer. The red speed machine may be over a decade old at this point, but somehow this example has totaled less than 300 miles during that time.
It may have taken a while for everyone to see the light, but it’s safe to say that Lexus‘s parent company Toyota’s attempt to build a sports car that could compete with the very best from Europe was a resounding success. The LFA paired a gorgeous design that hasn’t aged a day with a potent V-10 that still feels technologically advanced. The resulting car is now considered one of the finest vehicles of the century and all you need to do is see one in person to know why. Add in the fact that only 500 were built during the two years (2010 to 2012) it was in production and it’s a car that any collector would probably love to own.
And the one currently up for bid in Arizona is one that we imagine will catch the attention of many enthusiasts. The LFA, which dates to the car’s final year of production, is finished in a bright coat of Absolutely Red over a Cream leather interior (a plaque identifying the example as the 107th built is located on the rear bulkhead). It’s the sort of color combo you’d expect to find on a Ferrari Testarossa—which we imagine isn’t a coincidence—and it works on the long-nosed coupé. Rounding things out are a set of 20-inch alloy wheels.
Just as beautiful as the car’s exterior is the 4.8-liter DOHC V-10 under its hood. The front-mid-mounted mill was developed in conjunction with Yamaha and produces a lively 553 horses and 354 ft lbs that is routed to the rear axle via a six-speed automated manual and redlines at a screaming 9,000 rpm. This powertrain promises to be in tip-top shape too, as this LFA has only covered 268 miles since leaving the factory. It’s not brand-new, of course, but it’s about as close as you’re going to come at this late date.
If all this has been enough to pique your interest, you’ll want to make your way to Bring a Trailer soon. The 2012 is up for auction until tomorrow afternoon, with bidding having reached $751,000 as of press time. That’s in line with what other examples have sold for on the site, but with its mileage don’t be surprised if this LFA goes for more thanks to some late bids.
