Firmship is turning its focus from the water to land.

The Dutch yacht firm has teamed up with designer Job Smeets for an exclusive Land Rover Defender. They’ve given the sporty off-roader a monochromatic makeover that gives it an added air of sophistication.

Firmship and Smeets couldn’t have picked a better starting point for their collaboration. The Defender has mixed style and substance like few other 4x4s since its introduction back in 1948. The latest iteration of the model, which launched in 2020, is one of the better-looking vehicles currently on the market.

Because of this, the general design of the Defender has been left alone. The entirety of the vehicle’s sleek exterior, from the bumpers to the side view mirrors, is finished in Firmship’s trademark hue of RAL 7035, though. This gives the vehicle a bold all-white look that we’re more used to seeing from a boat than an automobile. The finish is also coated in the same metal lacquer used on bulldozers to help fight off unsightly scratches and scuffs. Completing the exterior package are white British heritage wheels based on those found on the original Land Rover.

The interior features a similar single-color motif. Light grey is the hue of choice this time, though. There are occasional black and red accents—on the dashboard, gear shifter, and seat belt buckle—but the vehicle’s leather seats and upholstery are all done up in the lighter shade. It’s a striking choice and one that works especially well in tandem with the exterior.

There’s no reference to the vehicle’s powertrain, but since the SUV is based on the two-door Defender 90 we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. The off-roader is available with everything from a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four to a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8. The top-of-the-line Defender 90 V8 Carpathian Edition’s mill produces 518 hp and 461 ft lbs of torque, which is sent to all four wheels via an eight-automatic transmission. It’s a true 4×4, but can still sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 149 mph.

Has your interest been piqued? If so, you may want to reach out to Firmship sooner than later. The company plans to build just 25 examples of this Defender. No price has been announced, but it will likely cost well north of the base model’s $57,845 starting price.
