Unboxing the Amberjack Slip-On is a simple experience. The shoes arrived in a plastic-free package (bonus points for carbon-neutral shipping). Unlike most companies, Amberjack doesn’t double-box its shoes. Instead, the brand ships the shoes directly in the original box—a small but significant eco-friendly choice. 

The unboxing experience begins with a quick tear of the box strip and a lift of the lid to reveal a complimentary linen dustbag (not nylon, mind you) to keep your shoes protected when not on your feet.

Remove the dustbag and open the protective paper to get your first glimpse of the Slip-Ons nestled inside.

Materials & craftsmanship: Full-grain leather and European-made

When it comes to the Amberjack Slip-On, it’s all about quality from farm to foot. Crafted with precision and care, these slip-ons feature premium materials and excellent craftsmanship.

Amberjack is known for using A-grade full-grain American steer leather, the same type reserved for luxury cars—it’s safe to say that longevity won’t be a worry for these slip-ons.

I ordered the Amberjack Slip-On in obsidian black and chestnut to compare the two colors. They’re both made with premium full-grain leather and sheepskin lining.

You can feel the quality when slipping your feet into these shoes. 

It’s soft and plush, thanks to the sheepskin lining. The design is also light and breathable. A good balance for a pair of shoes you’ll likely mostly wear in warmer weather.

Inside, the signature yellow insole adds a touch of sunshine to an already sleek design. And while the rubber soles and toe shape might ring a bell for Amberjack loafer fans, there are subtle differences that make these slip-ons stand out.

For added practicality, you’ll find a pull-tab on the back of the shoe (an absolute lifesaver if, like me, you’re rushing out the door in the morning).

In terms of aesthetics, the Amberjack Slip-Ons also hit the mark with their professional and sleek cut. These slip-ons scream “he means business.” Whether you’re dressing up for a meeting or heading out for brunch, these shoes have got you covered.

Colors & variants: Limited but sufficient for now

Amberjack Slip-Ons come in three color options: Obsidian, Chestnut, and Honey.

As mentioned above, I got both the obsidian and chestnut versions for this review. They are the two most traditional and versatile styles in my opinion.

Obsidian is an elegant shade that’s perfect for formal occasions. Chestnut is classic and can be worn for any occasion, from work to a night out with friends. Honey will bring your outfit to life—the warm tone adds character while still being versatile enough for everyday use.

No matter your style, there’s an Amberjack hue to suit every occasion. While each color exudes its own charm, I must admit my personal favorite is the chestnut—I’m a sucker for that classic look.

Unlike other shoes in the Amberjack collection (such as The Original), the Slip-On’s color selection is limited at the moment. I’m sure the brand will expand it in the future if the model proves to be popular.

Comfort, fit, and sizing: This is the main selling point

Straight out of the box, the shoes are comfortable as if they’ve been broken in for years. And here’s the best part, because of the heat-activated arch support, they get even more comfortable with each wear!

But the comfort doesn’t stop there. The slip-ons have dual-density outsoles, offering a good balance of flexibility and support during all-day wear. 

The brand went the extra mile with the insole by developing a proprietary fancy foam insole that’s more durable than traditional memory foam. At last, long-lasting comfort and insoles that won’t flatten out over time.

And you can totally rock these slip-ons sockless! The butterfly-soft sheepskin lining is laser-perforated for breathability, keeping your feet cool and fresh even on the hottest days.

In terms of sizing, Amberjack offers a broad range of sizes from 7 to 15, including half sizes. They may run a tad large for some individuals, so as per Amberjack’s recommendations, I suggest sizing down if you find yourself between sizes. I took my usual 10.5, and they fit me like a glove.

Care & maintenance: Nothing of note here

Caring for your Amberjack Slip-Ons is easy with a little TLC. 

Treat them like any other leather shoe: regular cleanings and applications of leather conditioner will keep them looking great and in top condition for years to come.
