This all-electric 2005 Land Rover Defender 110 restomod is a prototype from Bedeo.
-
The performance matches that of the original donor vehicle (zero to 60 mph in 10 seconds and a top speed of 80 mph), while the range is a modest 153 miles.
-
The original Defender’s rudimentary dashboard and cramped driving position are almost unchanged.
-
A digital screen within the rearview mirror shows energy use and the remaining range.
-
The center console’s push-button panel for Drive, Reverse, Park, and Eco mode, the latter of which adjusts the level of regenerative braking.
-
The electric power train does not compromise the amount of passenger space inside the cabin, though its configuration does translate to a small decrease in ground clearance.
-
Bedeo has installed a 75 kWh battery that can be replenished with a 22 kW AC charger and up to a 50 kW DC charger.
-
Bedeo chose the Defender as the starting point for its restomod EV projects because of the model’s increasing value and the relatively high number still on the road.
-
Housed within the 18-inch wheels, each electric motor develops 82 hp and 479 ft lbs of torque.
-
Bedeo’s prototype for an all-electric Defender restomod is claimed to weigh about the same as a stock version of the Defender fit with a diesel engine, driveshafts, and a manual transmission.
-
The motors might be quiet, but all-terrain tires paired with aerodynamic styling (or lack of) dating back to 1948 do turn up the volume with speed.
