F1 Star Lando Norris Signed This Plymouth Barracuda Restomod—and Now It Can Be Yours

McLaren Racing doesn’t just work on Formula 1 cars.

The current constructor standings leader also restored a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda earlier this year. And now the ferocious muscle car, which is finished in the marque’s trademark orange hue and signed by team driver Lando Norris, is up for auction on eBay.

The restomod was born out of a collaboration between McLaren and eBay. The online supplied the donor car, a near-stock silver and black ‘Cuda, and let the racing team call the rest of the shot. This turns out to have been a good decision on eBay’s part as seen by the enthusiastic response to the vehicle when it made its public debut before last month’s U.S. Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

The one-off build is almost certainly not the first orange Barracuda you’ve seen. But while others were likely painted in Hemi Orange, this one’s muscular exterior is finished in a glossy coat of Papaya Orange, a color that has been McLaren’s trademark since the late 1960s. The warm shade is offset quite nicely by a black grain vinyl hardtop, a white eBay decal across the top of the windshield, and chrome trim. Rounding thing out is a set of period-appropriate 15-inch American Racing wheels.

The interior sports a much more sedate. The four-seat cabin is covered in black from the floor to the headliner. It does appear to have been spruced up a bit, with a classic wood steering wheel, faux wood panel center console, racing-style front bucket seats, and new carpet. The dashboard also features Norris’s signature in silver, something we imagine the new owner won’t mind showing off.

The press release announcing the car is curiously short on powertrain details, but the fixed-up Barracuda looks to be powered by a 340 cubic-inch (or 5.6-liter) V-8 connected to performance headers and a new exhaust system.  This mill—which is the larger of two available in 1973—made 240 hp fresh from the factory. Other mechanical features include a new Mopar coilover suspension system in the front and back, as well as forged Wilwood disc brakes on every wheel.

Is your car collection short of some American-made muscle signed by one of the F1 drivers of the season? The McLaren X eBay 1973 Plymouth Barracuda is up for auction on the online marketplace until this coming Sunday, November 25. As of press time, bidding had reached $51,100. All proceeds from the sale will reportedly go to the Society of Women Engineers.
