KAMM’s Carbon-Fiber-Bodied Porsche 912 Restomod Weighs a Lot Less Than Its Predecessors

KAMM Manufaktur continues to refine its take on the classic Porsche 912.

The Hungarian shop has just unveiled the most hardcore version of its restomod yet. The 2024 edition of the sleek sports car features a new body made only of carbon fiber, dropping its weight to a new low.

Since its founding earlier this decade, KAMM has dedicated all its time and effort to building restomods based on the entry-level 911 that was produced between 1965 and 1969. Past versions of the 912c have featured an exterior that mixed carbon fiber and steel. That’s not the case with the 2024 edition, on which every body part that matters, including the roof and quarter panels, is made from lightweight material, according to the shop. Because of this, the car, in full road-going trim, tips the scales at just 1,541 pounds. That is around 110 pounds lighter than the earlier semi-carbon 912c and over 660 pounds less than the original vehicle. The lower weight means the sports car’s weight distribution is now nearly 50:50, too.

More carbon fiber isn’t the only thing that separates the new 912c from its predecessors. The body has also been tweaked so that it’s more aerodynamic than before and carbon-fiber wheels are also available as an add-on, according to the shop. Inside, you’ll find new seat options, as well as improved air conditioning and phone connectivity. A bespoke design service that will allow customers to further customize their car will also launch in 2024.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is the engine. KAMM still equips all of its 912 restomods with a larger, air-cooled 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 190 hp and revs up to 7,200 rpm. The upgraded mill is twice as powerful as the 1.6-liter four-cylinder found in factory versions of the car.

The original 912 may have been accessibly priced—by Porsche standards, at least—but the 912c is aimed at a completely different kind of buyer. The restomod starts at €360,000 (around $395,000).
