If you own a Koenigsegg Jesko, today may not be the day to take it for a spin.
The Swedish automaker has asked owners of the $3 million supercar to park it for the foreseeable future, according to several outlets. The reason: the company wants to figure out why one of the vehicles caught fire in Greece over the weekend.
On Saturday morning, video began circulating online of the Jesko (not the one pictured above) engulfed in flames on the side of the road near the city of Marousi, according to Motor1.com. The vehicle, which had been a participant in the Six2Six Europe Tour supercar rally, is said to have been traveling at slow speeds (though there are conflicting reports it was being driven aggressively) when the blaze started. The driver and their passenger were able to escape without injury, but the car wasn’t so lucky. By the time emergency crews extinguished the fire the only identifiable parts of the Jesko that remained were its tires.
In the wake of the incident, Koenigsegg issued a Do-No-Drive Order (DNDO) for owners of the brand’s flagship model, according to Egg Registry. The order, which was sent via email, informed them of what had happened and requested that they not drive the vehicle until a source of the blaze could be determined.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we ask all Jesko owners and drivers to hold off on driving their cars until we have had a chance to understand the situation better,” Koenigsegg’s email is reported to have read.
Koenigsegg did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Robb Report on Tuesday morning.
One would imagine that the Jesko owner, an unidentified Spaniard, is glad that they and their passenger escaped the scary incident unharmed. That said, they’re also probably smarting over the loss of the supercar. Egg Directory identifies the example as the Jesko NÜR Edition, a bespoke creation that features an exposed carbon-fiber finish that adds $443,400 to the hypercar’s already sky-high price tag. To make matters worse, the owner reportedly only took possession of the car a few weeks ago and put just 100 miles on the odometer.
To date, Koenigsegg has built just 28 examples of the Jesko, which features a rear-mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V-8 that produces 1,280 hp. It plans to build just 125 before production of the vehicle ends.
