Mercedes-Benz Just Unveiled Its E-Class All-Terrain Wagon—and It’s Headed for the U.S.

Here’s a sports wagon that can do more than drive fast.

Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled the refreshed E-Class All-Terrain wagon. Any high-performance long-roof is noteworthy as far as we’re concerned, but especially one that we already know is destined to go on sale in the U.S.

Like its sedan counterpart, the new E450 4MATIC All-Terrain has received a makeover for the 2024 model year. It features a revised front fascia with a larger grille that connects to the headlights, along with sharper lines and a more defined shape than the marque’s current crop of EVs. The differences kick in when you get to the B-pillar, where the roof now extends all the way to the rear of the vehicle. The wagon has also been lifted by a half inch and outfitted with cladding along the bottom of the car and wheel arches, which should come in handy should you decide to take it off-road.

Inside, the wagon’s interior is almost identical to that of the sedan. There’s a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster tucked in behind the steering wheel for the driver and a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs the automaker’s MBUX operating system. Leather seats and ambient lighting are also present. The big difference, of course, is in how much cargo you can lug around. The wagon features 21.7 cubic feet of storage space compared to the sedan’s 19 cubic feet, but this expands to 64.6 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down.

The E450 All-Terrain, like the standard E450, comes with a mild-hybrid power train mated to a revised nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The setup pairs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric Boost system that temporarily kicks in 23 hp and 148 ft lbs of torque when triggered, pushing total output to 375 horses and 369 ft lbs of twist. The wagon can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph, which is 20 mph slower than the sedan. It also comes equipped with the automaker’s Airmatic air suspension system, which automatically lowers the vehicle at speeds of over 75 mph to reduce wind resistance.

Mercedes says that the E450 4MATIC All-Terrain will arrive in U.S. dealerships next year, although an exact date has yet to be set. No pricing information was revealed, either, though it seems likely that the wagon will start north of the 2023 model’s $71,250 starting price.
