Porsche Unveils a New Canopy Tent That Can Be Inflated in Mere Minutes

Turning your Taycan into a camper just got a little easier. Porsche unveiled a new multifunctional tent on Friday that provides shelter from the elements at the beach, campsite, and beyond.

Penned by the folks at Studio F.A. Porsche in Zell am See, Austria, the simply named Porsche Canopy Tent takes design cues from the Porsche Roof Tent that the marque unveiled two years ago but sits at the rear of a car rather than on top of it.

The free-standing structure showcases a subdued colorway of black and gray and the striking “silhouette of a mountain,” according to the nameplate. It also features a weatherproof corridor that attaches to the tailgate of any four-door Porsche and a large transparent plastic window that affords sweeping, uninterrupted views. (An integrated screen can be fitted to the window if privacy is preferred.) In addition, vents with built-in mosquito nets let air in while keeping bugs out.

The tent can be quickly and easily inflated in a few minutes, with a practical hand pump pushing air into a central valve. It can then be anchored to the ground using a storm-resistant fastening set with reflective belts. The floor can also be secured with Velcro fasteners.

The standard layout offers a floor area of roughly 57 square feet, though the square footage can be increased in several ways. Owners can, for example, attach an optional extension tent to the main tent via a zip. The additional space can be used as a bedroom on overnight adventures. Multiple tents can also be combined with the help of a nifty “connecting element,” Porsche says. The automaker has also developed two further side panel variants: one without a window, and one with an airy mesh fabric for insect protection.

As mentioned, Porsche unveiled a two-person roof tent in 2022. Housed within a harcase, the pop-up structure can be easily set up on the top of the 911, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, and Taycan. (Lexus and Volkswagen have also released similar rooftop designs.) The marque says both tent designs could work together in tandem, too. Porsche Design also offers a range of accessories for outdoor adventures, such as outdoor speakers and thermal travel mugs.

Porsche didn’t say how much the new canopy tent would cost, but the roof tent retailed for €4,980 (about $4,550) upon release in Germany.
