Hylas is a yacht manufacturer renowned for its fantastic creations sailing the majestic seas in grace and luxury. The Queen Long Marine shipyard, founder and owner of the Hylas Yachts brand since 1985, has produced sailboats for over 40 years. The company is now venturing into gutsy power cruisers as well. The recent Hylas M44 saw extreme success, so much that Ken Read, the President of North Sails Group and one of the most accomplished and celebrated sailors in the world, described the Hylas M44 as their “dreamboat”. Its versatility, accommodations, storage capacity, seakeeping capability, performance, and fuel efficiency matched Ken’s dynamic yachting lifestyle.
Here’s what he had to say: “When it’s time to relax I still want to be on the water but I must say that to turn a key and crack open a cold beer—it’s a pretty nice option. The M44 is perfect for a cruising couple, and maybe a kid or two. We can fit the paddle boards, and all the other toys you can think of. We often live on Hayden during the local or regional regatta.” Building on that success, the Hylas M49 is a beast that has impressive speeds and handles extreme conditions. The M49 is now set to enter the American waters and has been greatly anticipated by American boaters.
The Hylas M49 is designed in partnership with the New Zealand-based yacht builder Salthouse considering the review of the M44 by Ken Read. The Salthouse family has over 65 years of experience, with many exceptional high-performance cruisers. Also, the company’s CEO, Dean Salthouse, has owned no less than five Hylas yachts – hence the partnership’s success was a no-brainer!
The M49 builds on its predecessor but is sturdier. At 48 feet, 10 inches in length, the Hylas M49 is a total of 4 feet, 7 inches longer than the M44. Apart from size, the yacht provides pop-up grills, a wet bar, cockpit refrigeration, and ice makers that were missing in the M44.
The Hylas M49 features two suite cabins, including a master cabin with a center line double bed equipped with “his and hers” hanging lockers plus under-berth storage drawers. The guest room can easily be converted from a double to a twin set-up and has an overhead 3rd bunk option. The M49 features a well-appointed dinette, two generous cabins, and two heads for the interiors. A pop-up grill for alfresco dining, a wet bar, and ample space for water toys, fishing gear, and dive equipment await on the spacious aft of the yacht. However, the layout can be customized to suit the owner’s requirements.
Twin Yanmar 8LV diesel engines powder this 49-foot yacht to challenge the waters, giving her a top speed of 31 knots. These Yanmars engines focus on sturdy performance and optimal fuel economy, making them perfect for day boating and longer offshore adventures. With the Hylas M49, pleasure and fun are guaranteed.
