The Last Bentley Bacalar Roadster Is Now Headed to Auction

Thanks to the auction market you will almost always get a second shot at getting the car of your dreams.

Take, for example, the 2022 Bentley Bacalar. The British marque only produced 12 examples of the open-top luxury GT, making it almost impossible to snag initially. But one with barely any mileage will hit the block next month via Mecum Auctions.

The Bacalar was a radical change of pace for Bentley. Based on the Continental GT, but with a bold look inspired by the EXP 100 GT, it threw elegance and sophistication to the win in favor of something much more fun. The roadster is the handiwork of Bentley’s coachbuilding division, Mulliner, and wears a heavily sculpted body that, with the exception of the door handles, is completely brand new. While most of the marque’s vehicles are sophisticated creations meant for riding in comfort, the Bacalar is a muscular beast built to go fast.

This example is the 12th and final example from the production run. It’s finished in a rich coat of Mulliner Extended Range of Veridian with a smattering of Satin Bronze accent work and wears the Carbon Fiber Pack aero kit. The two-seat cabin, meanwhile, is covered in Beluga black leather with bronze piping and features the brand’s rotating display as well as a numbered plaque. In the trunk, you’ll find a matching set of bespoke luggage made from Beluga leather and grey tweed.

The car is powered by one of the automaker’s vaunted W-12 engines. Here the 6.0-liter mill produces a 650 hp and 664 ft lbs of torque which is split between all four wheels by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Bentley never announced performance numbers for the roofless wonder—we imagine they thought it would be gauche—but it has been reported that it could go from zero to 62 mph in around 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of over 200 mph. Not bad for an automaker known more for luxury than performance. The engine in this Bacalar should have no problem hitting either of those numbers, either. Mecum says the car has only 119 miles on the odometer, which means it’s barely been driven, if at all, since leaving the factory.

The Bacalar is scheduled to go up for bid on Friday, May 17, as part of Mecum’s annual Indy sales event. No estimate is listed for the roadster, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if it sold for more than its original $2 million sticker price.
