This Beached Ferrari California Had to Be Pulled Free by Oxen

Sometimes horsepower just isn’t enough.

Just ask the Ferrari California T driver who recently found himself stuck on a beach in India. The convertible may pack a 500-hp V-8, but it needed the help of an old-fashioned oxcart to free itself from the sand.

The incident occurred recently when a pair of tourists got the bright idea to drive their black and white California T directly onto Revdanda Beach, which is located around 80 miles south of Mumbai, for a picnic, reports Road & Track. What may have seemed like a nice way to spend an afternoon quickly turned into a nightmare when the car became stuck.

Luckily for the pair, a man in an oxcart soon passed. The mammal-powered vehicle, which humans have been using since as far back as 4400 B.C., turned out to be just what the situation was called, according to a video uploaded to X by Pune Post. Using a rope, the car driver and his two oxen (and two other beachgoers) were able to pull the Prancing Horse free.

You wouldn’t think a car like the California T wouldn’t need so much help getting unstuck. The convertible, which was built between 2014 and 2017, is powered by a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that produces 553 hp and 557 ft lbs of torque. That engine is powerful enough to push the sports car from zero to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and to a top speed of 196 mph. Of course, the vehicle was designed to be driven on smooth pavement and not the wet sand of a secluded beach.

While the oxcart was able to free the California T from Revdanda Beach, it didn’t get its driver completely out of the muck. Another local outlet, The Free Press Journal, reports that the convertible’s driver is now in hot water with the law. That’s because Revdanda police launched an investigation after the video of the incident began circulating on social media. After looking at CCTV footage from the surrounding area, they decided to charge the driver with reckless driving for endangering their life, as well as those of others, at Revdanda Beach. Authorities have also asked other drivers to abstain from driving their vehicles onto the beach, warning that they could be booked as well.

We assume that oxcarts are exempt from this request, though.
