One Bugatti owner wasn’t going to let his wife outshine him.
The unnamed American was so taken by the work the automaker’s bespoke division, Sur Mesure, did on his wife’s Chiron Super Sport, that he asked them to restyle his own so that it matched. The result is two hypercars that illustrate the couple’s passion for each other and the French marque.
More than a few people have been stopped in their tracks this year by the Chiron Super Sport “L’aura.” That includes its owner’s husband. At some point after getting a look at his wife’s hypercar, which has a striking red and orange “Vagues de Lumière” paint scheme, he reached out to Bugatti to give his vehicle the same treatment. Sur Mesure was up for the challenge, and seven months later the couple had matching Chiron Super Sports.
The paint schemes of the his-and-her Chirons are inspired by that of the Veyron “L’Or Blanc.” Like that vehicle, which was publicly unveiled in 2011, both of the hypercars sport an intricate design that is meant to the way that light reflects. Her car, the L’aura, combines Rosso Efesto red and Arancia Mira orange to create this effect, while his, the “Coup de Foudre,” does so by mixing visible carbon fiber with French Racing Blue that has been tinted black. The cars have similar interior themes as well. Hers is covered in black and orange leather, while his has been decorated with black and blue leather. Each Chiron’s name can also be found on the underside of its spoiler, as well as on the cabin’s center console.
While the exterior and interior of the matching Chirons have received loads of attention, the rest of the hypercar has been left untouched. With good reason. The variant is powered by a turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16. The brawny mill can pump out an astonishing 1,596 horses and 1,228 ft lbs of torque, all of which is routed to the rear wheels by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Should either member of the couple ever choose to push the vehicle to its max, they’ll be able to go from zero to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 273 mph.
No price was announced for the couple’s Chiron Super Sports. Despite this, we’d be willing to go out on a limb and say that they both cost a fair bit more than the model’s $3.5 million starting price.
