It’s never too late to score the car of your dreams thanks to the auction market.

Just look at the modern-day Porsche 935 that was unveiled back in 2018. The German marque only built 77 examples of the track-only homage, all of which were snapped up right away. But now, six years later, a barely-driven example is up for auction on Bring a Trailer.

If you know anything about Porsche’s racing history, chances are you’re already familiar with the 935. Nicknamed Moby Dick because of its distinctive “whale tail” rear-end, the racer was a fixture at some of motorsports biggest events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the late 1970s and early ‘80s. That’s why Porsche decided to bring it back in 2018, with some modern upgrades, as part of its year-long 70th anniversary celebration.

The original 935 predecessor may have been based on the 930-generation Turbo, but the new version is built on the bones of the 991.2-generation GT2 RS. This example, which was the thirteenth to roll off the line, wears an exposed carbon-fiber body that stretches nearly 16 feet bumper to bumper. It’s also outfitted with an aggressive aero package, that includes a heavily revised front-end, bulging fenders, and giant rear-wing, and rides on a custom set of single-piece forged center-locking racing wheels wrapped in Michelin racing slicks. The stripped-down interior features a carbon-fiber steering wheel and digital display, along with some nostalgic flourishes like a laminated wood gear selector.

Powering the race car is a liquid-cooled, twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six. The brutish mill is connected to a seven-speed PDK transmission that sends 390 hp and 553 ft lbs of torque to the rear axle. Thanks to that, the vehicle can launch from zero to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 211 mph. There’s also an upgraded suspension setup, that includes forged links, spherical bearings, and three-way adjustable dampers. If all that wasn’t intriguing enough, the car has just 587 miles on the odometer.

If you want to add this 935 to your garage, expect to spend big. With a day left in the auction, bidding has already reached $1.6 million. That’s twice as much as the car cost originally, but when you take into account how rare the car is, it just might be a bargain.
