One of the rarest American supercars of all time could soon be yours.

A 2005 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo is currently up for bid on Bring a Trailer. This example also happens to be one of just one of two that left the factory with the Competition Package.

After having spent much of the previous two decades building ridiculous high-performance upgrades of existing automobiles, Saleen decided it was time to finally produce one of its own around the turn of the century. That car was the S7, a mid-engine supercar designed and engineered to be a match for flagship models coming out of Maranello and Sant’Agata Bolognese. It paired an outlandish carbon-fiber body that included butterfly doors with an extremely potent twin-turbocharged V-8. It was as rare as it was impressive, with less than 100 examples, including racing variants, rolling off the line between 2000 and 2009.

The long, sweeping body of this particular S7, chassis 05-049, is finished in a sparkling coat of Liztick Red and rides on a set of staggered forged alloy wheels (19 inches in the front, 20 inches in the back). Competition Package modifications include a more dramatic front splitter and a giant rear wing. Lift up the door, and you’re greeted by a two-person cabin covered in black leather broken up only by red cloth accents. The interior is cramped, just like in most supercars, but it does feature bucket seats with four-point harnesses, air conditioning, and a Kenwood CD/DVD player with a flip-out display.

The car’s headline feature, though, is the twin-turbocharged 7.0-liter V-8 that resides in the engine bay. The fully revised mill features a Motec engine management system and a new induction kit, which boosts the car’s already respectable output by 30 percent to over 1,000 horses. Thanks to all that grunt, the car was able to reach 248 mph. This example should have little trouble doing that either since it has just over 1,100 miles on the odometer.
