Tiffin’s New Off-Road Camper Van Delivers All the Comfort of an RV in a Compact Package

Tiffin is trying its hand at something a little smaller.

The Thor Industries-owned company may be best known for its hulking luxury RVs, but its latest model, GH1, is based on the popular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van chassis. The off-road-friendly vehicle may lack the physical stature of the rest of the brand’s lineup, but it still delivers all the creature comforts its customers have come to expect.

The GH1 is built on the Sprinter 2500 chassis, which measures 19.5 feet bumper-to-bumper, 10 feet tall, and 7.7 feet wide. The van is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, twin-scroll turbo diesel with 208 hp and 332 ft lbs of torque which is divvied out to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Unlike other Tiffin models, which are best suited to long trips on smooth highways, the GH1 is meant to be taken off-road. Its suspension system features Fox shocks and it rides on “adventure” wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires.

Tiffin’s camper van may lack the size of the double-deck tour busses the company built its name on, but it still offers enough room for small traveling parties. It may be less than half the size of those 45-foot behemoths, but the company has still managed to equip the vehicle with a kitchen that includes an induction range, sink, and combination freezer fridge; a wet bath with a cassette toilet, hot shower, and skylight; as well as a power lift bed with room for two. You wouldn’t call the living area cavernous by any means, but thanks to a clean design and some clever storage there’s more than enough room for two adults, with room for others to visit for a meal. Add-ons include a two-person jump seat when you’re traveling with a party of more than two and “Adventure Bar,” which is basically a versatile two-tier workbench.

The GH1 comes with a Battle Born 540-amp battery pack along with a 220-watt solar panel, to keep the van and all its gadgets up and running. You can also upgrade to factory-installed Starlink Pro internet if you want to stay connected while on the road.

Interested? Tiffin doesn’t list a price for the GH1, so you’ll have to reach out to them to find out the cost. The van likely won’t come cheap, though, with a starting price of around $175,000 likely.
