Watch the Tesla Cybertruck Go Off-Roading in Baja, Mexico

We’re finally starting to get a better understanding of what the Tesla Cybertruck will be able to do.

Over the weekend, the EV maker’s official account on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, livestreamed its eagerly anticipated EV in action. The footage, which was also posted as a video, isn’t some heavily edited highlight reel, either. It’s one long, sustained shot of the pickup off-roading in Baja California.

The seven-minute-long clip was shot from the front seat of one of two Cybertruck release candidates dispatched to Baja for off-road testing, according to its unnamed narrator. The lead pickup can be seen maneuvering its way through a winding course that crosses multiple types of terrain with ease. We’ve seen EVs tackle worse—like the Rivian R1T that scaled Hell’s Gate in Moab, Utah, a couple of years back—but it’s impressive how untroubled the truck looks, something that can likely be attributed to its suspension system.

“You can be super comfortable driving on-road, turn off onto the trailhead then suddenly swith to off-road mode,” the narrator can be heard saying. “We’ve got air suspension and active dampers. We can totally change the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle.”

Elon Musk may have unveiled the Cybertruck way back in November of 2019, but we still know precious little about the vehicle almost four years later, including when it will go on sale and how much it will cost. The company hasn’t announced technical specs or performance numbers, either, though it promised the pickup will have a 500-mile range and be able to tow up to 14,000 pounds. Sunday’s video suggests it will make quite the off-roader as well.

The livestream wasn’t the only show of the Cybertruck’s abilities to go viral over the past few days. Late last week, a short clip of the EV towing one of Space X’s massive Raptor rocket engines also surfaced online. It remains to be seen if the Cybertruck will be able to deliver on all of Musk and Tesla’s bold promises—we’re particularly curious about its range—but these glimpses are promising.
